My TiVo is dropping sound occasionally when connected via HDMI. How do I fix this?

If you are experiencing sound drops when using your TiVo in conjunction with an HDMI cable, there are a few things you should check:

1. Are there any software updates available for your TV? Recently a number of large TV manufacturers released new software updates aiming at fixing this issue.

2. Try turning off the TiVo Sounds by navigating to TiVo Central > Messages & Settings > Settings > Audio > Sound Effects Volume > Off.

3. Change the sound type from Dolby Digital to PCM by navigating to TiVo Central > Messages & Settings > Settings > Audio > Dolby Digital > Select "Dolby Digital to PCM"

4. Re-sync the HDCP handshake by removing the TiVo's HMDI plug from the back of the TV, then unplug your TV from the powerpoint (simply turning it off will not do the trick). Wait 30 seconds, then re-plug the TiVo in. Once it has booted up, go ahead and plug the TiVo's HDMI cable back in to the TV.

5. Check your TV for a CEC feature, which controls HDMI-connected devices via the TV, and turn this feature OFF:

Specific brand names for CEC are:

- Anynet+ (Samsung)

- Aquos Link (Sharp)

- BRAVIA Sync (Sony)

- HDMI-CEC (Hitachi)

- E-link (AOC)

- Kuro Link (Pioneer)

- CE-Link and Regza Link (Toshiba)

- RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) (Onkyo)

- SimpLink (LG)

- HDAVI Control, EZ-Sync, VIERA Link (Panasonic)

- EasyLink (Philips)

- NetCommand for HDMI (Mitsubishi)

I’m not receiving all channels

Sometimes the availability of some channels could be affected by weather conditions or other environmental factors. To check you're receiving all available channels, do a channel scan.

If you're not receiving certain channels, try the following:

Step 1
To perform a channel scan: Go to TiVo Central > Messages & Settings > Settings > Channels > Channel Scan > Scan for Channels.
When you have completed the scan, select ‘Add Channels’.
Please note: If this does not resolve the problem, perform a rescan.

To perform a channel rescan: Go to TiVo Central > Messages & Settings > Settings > Channels > Channel Scan> ‘Delete Channels and Rescan’.
When you have completed the scan, select ‘Add All Channels’.
Note: If you do a rescan you will need to reset any favourite channels you had set up.

Step 2
Check the signal quality. From TiVo Central, select Messages & Settings > Settings > Channels > Signal Quality. Press SELECT on your remote control to bring up a signal strength meter. This meter shows how well a digital TV channel is being received. This can be useful for positioning an antenna.

Step 3
If you find that a channel scan does not find every channel, you may wish to add channels manually. Please follow this link: How do I add a channel on my TiVo® media device?
If you still cannot receive the channel after trying the above recommendations, please ensure you have the channel selected in your channel list.
Go to TiVo Central > Messages & Settings > Settings > Channels > Channel List. Look through the list for the channel and select it. Select “Finished” when you are done.

My On-Screen Guide does not list all of the channels I receive.

There could be several reasons why your TiVo® media device is not displaying On-Screen Guide information for all the channels you receive:

Your TiVo® media device is not connecting to the TiVo® service. Please see the article Connecting to the TiVo® Service.

You have not activated your TiVo® media device and your 14-day grace period has expired. Please click here to activate your TiVo®.

From time to time the channel line-up can change and a channel rescan will be required. In this situation, please perform a channel scan

If there are channels in your channel list that are not visible in the On-Screen Guide, you may need to adjust your On-Screen Guide options. These options allow you to limit the channels listed in the On-Screen Guide to your favourite channels or to channels with specific types of programming. You can adjust the On-Screen Guide to list all of the channels with programme listing information available by doing the following:

Step 1
Press SELECT on your remote control while viewing the On-Screen Guide.

Step 2
Change the "Filtering" option to Off, and the "Channels" option to All.

Step 3
Select "Done changing options".
